Paediatric emergencies

In the Paediatric Unit of the Perpetuo Socorro Hospital we offer initial care and stabilisation of medical-surgical emergencies as well as the initial or definitive care, diagnosis or treatment to all patients under 14 that come to us as an emergency for any medical-surgical problem.

Services

  • Receipt and classification of our patients, taking their weight and temperature measurements as well as their heart and breathing rate, blood pressure and pulse oximetry reading in cases where it is considered necessary.
  • Administration of emergency oral, inhaled, intramuscular or intravenous medication.
  • Securing of emergency analysis through arterial and venous puncture, catheterisation, suprapubic and lumbar puncture, etc.
  • Channelling of peripheral pathways.
  • Treatment and cure of lesions.
  • Undertaking of rapid diagnostic techniques such as capillary glycaemia and detection of Group A Beta-haemolytic Streptococcus.
  • Extraction of foreign bodies.
  • Hospital observation with the appropriate monitoring of their vital signs and administration of necessary medication over a period of no more than 24 hours.
  • Individual consultation with the corresponding clinical questioning, conventional examination, request and assessment of the complementary examinations undertaken, appropriate therapeutic indications, diagnostic impression and recommendations for discharge. All of which is outlined in the corresponding Emergency Medical Report that is handed in once the patient is discharged.

  • Acute neurological processes and repeated instances of chronic neurological problems.
  • Emergency Otolaryngological processes.
  • Breastfeeding children and children with non-descript fever.
  • Traumatic head injury.
  • Facial trauma (nasal, ocular, oral, etc.).
  • Skin irritations.
  • Conjunctivitis.
  • Urinary problems.
  • Non-traumatic mobility problems.
  • Insect bites.
  • Etc.

Equipment

  • Medical consultation room for examination.
  • Observation cubicle for school children with two beds and the necessary equipment for cardio-respiratory monitoring, the administering of a drip, intravenous medication and oxygen, and breathing apparatus, etc.
  • Observation cubicle for breastfeeding children with two cots and the necessary equipment for cardio-respiratory monitoring, the administering of a drip, intravenous medication and oxygen, and breathing apparatus, etc.
  • Intermediate room for the administering of oral or inhaled medication.
  • Waiting room.
